Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) is a cytotoxin produced by less than 5%
ofStaphylococcus aureusstrains, which act only on human and rabbit polymorphonuclear
cells (PMNs) and monocytes but not on erythrocytes. 1, 2 Injections of purified PVL into
